A Ramadan Diet
Although I am not a Catholic, earlier this year I attempted to adhere to the dietary restraints that are imposed by Lent
I had a couple of minor lapses, but for the most part I succeeded in adhering to the restraints and, beneficially, I was able to lose about 5 pounds.
Now is the time for Ramadan
and it appears that the Ramadan fasting rules are much more stringent forbidding even partaking of water during the daylight hours
I have found that fasting does tend to help focus one on the spiritual aspects of life since the growling that occasionally occurs in one's stomach serves as a reminder as to why one would voluntarily abstain from the earthly pleasure of eating.  I find that an empty stomach can make one more appreciative of the meal at the end of the day, and perhaps be more grateful in general for all the blessings in one's life.  Accordingly, although I am not a Muslim, in honor of Ramadan, I am endeavoring to follow a modified Ramadan fast for the next 30 days.  I will let you know how well I do in the days that come. Perhaps, if you are on a similar journey, you can tell me how you are doing on yours.
Peace,
Everett "Skip" Jenkins
