The First Europeans

Earlier this week I was listening to a a news program on the radio when the host announced the results of a scientific study that surprised me. The newscaster announced that a study of the genes of Europeans from relatively recent times revealed that up until 5,000 years ago most Europeans of Central and Sourthern Europe were dark skinned individuals. There was not much explanation given for this during the newscast, but this being Black History Month, my interest was piqued. Earlier tonight, I found this news article which explains the genetics.

and here is another article that makes the case even more clearly

and here is the Science magazine article that "scientifically" explains it all
Although I am a student of history, and particularly of black history, I was not aware of this scientific "evidence". Indeed, for most of my life I had assumed that some 40,000 years ago, white Europeans had come to exist and dominate all of Europe and that they had come to exist because of their adaptation over several millennia to the lack of sunlight during the Ice Age of 10,000 years ago. But alas, it appears that I was mistaken. It appears that the domination of white skin was not simply an evolutionary adaptation but rather a relatively recent combination of evolution, migration and genetic blending.
I suppose some will balk at the role "science" will play in "revising" history, but it appears that it will indeed rewrite history.
I only wonder, what else is there that we believe to be true that may not be true at all.
Peace,
Everett "Skip" Jenkins
