Lebron James: The Greatest of Our Time

Uthman,

I am mindful of the fact that basketball is a team sport and, as such, the greatness of a player is often measured by the success of the teams he played on.  That is why, for some, the greatest player of all time is Bill Russell, the man who won the championship eleven times in 13 years, and the man for whom the Finals MVP award is named.

However, great as Russell was and as supremely talented as Chamberlain was, they never carried the load that Lebron does.  He is the Cleveland Cavaliers point guard and comes close to getting a triple double while leading the finals in scoring every time he plays. No one has ever done that before and certainly not for eight straight years.  Lebron could have won a championship with Michael's Chicago Bulls but Michael could not have done so with Lebron's Cleveland Cavaliers.

Quite frankly, we have never seen such a complete skill set as we do with Lebron. For passing, dribbling, scoring, rebounding, and controlling the tempo of the game only the Big "O" (Oscar Robertson) comes close but the Big "O" never had the outside shot that Lebron now has.

So, for me, it is Lebron who is the GOAT ... although we must always temper it because we do not know who may come in the future.  So for now, let us just say that Lebron is the Greatest of Our Time and leave it at that.

Peace,

Everett "Skip" Jenkins
