Roseanne and Colin: Two Sides of Two Different Coins

 Brother Uthman,

I am so glad that you raised this issue.  From a business perspective, Roseanne and Colin are two sides of the same coin in that they were both potentially costing their employers money by their controversial actions.  However, their actual actions are very different  from each other and need to be viewed as such.  Roseanne's actions were racist and were intended to be hurtful.  They were not "jokes" ... at least not in what can be considered to be so in today's society.  On the other hand, Colin's actions were in the highest traditions of peaceful protest ... bringing to light a condition in our society that still results in the deaths of scores of African American men each and every year.  It seems to me that, once upon a time, someone would have stood up for Colin and led a boycott of the NFL demanding that Colin be reinstated as a quarterback on some team.  But, then again, that someone is no longer with us now, so Colin would appear to be on his own.

The Saints Amongst Us All

August 29: The Day the Music Was Born

The following email was originally posted on August 29, 2018 With all that is going on in the world, it may seem strange to note the birthday of a music icon who passed away almost a decade ago.  However, strange as it may seem, I do pause to remember Michael Jackson's birthday since he would have turned 60 years old today.  Somehow that number just does not seem to fit the man who seemed to be the eternal Peter Pan.  But time does march on, whether we want it to or not.
