World Refugee Day

Today, June 20, is World Refugee Day
It is thus with a sense of poetic justice, that today, the POTUS retreated from his political ploy of separating the children of refugees from their parents
However, there is still a very serious discussion that needs to be held as to what is the appropriate American response to the refugee crisis that exists within this world. In a world of continuous turmoil but diminishing resources, there is agreement that we cannot take all. But we can take some. How many would that be?
I suppose, for me, the words of Emma Lazarus that are on the Statue of Liberty still resonate
“Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tossed, to me:
I lift my lamp beside the golden door.”
And I am mindful that the practice of abiding by these words have tended to enrich this country more than it has to make it poor
Thus, the answer to the question posed above would seem clear.
But is it?
Peace,
Everett "Skip" Jenkins
